Spaces arrives in Luxembourg

IWG is set to change the workscape in Luxembourg with the opening of the first Spaces, which will be the largest co-working site in the country

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will see the opening of the largest ever co-working space in the country at the end of this year, with the arrival of Spaces in its capital city.

Luxembourg Spaces Place Central Station will occupy 6,400 square metres in the newly-renovated Impulse building on Place de la Gare. The building, formerly the headquarters of private banking group KBL, is now owned by Swiss Life and has been extensively redeveloped by Besix Red.

It will be the first location in Luxembourg for Spaces, the Amsterdam-based division of International Workplace Group (IWG), in a move facilitated by CBRE, the commercial real-estate and investment firm that advised IWG on the lease acquisition.

Martijn Roordink, founder of Spaces explains: "Spaces revolutionises our ways of working. Our goal is to optimise work-life balance by providing a better, more inspiring and more varied work environment. We are proud to be able to offer this concept to professionals and businesses in Luxembourg."

Since the brand’s inception in 2005, Spaces has delivered intuitive co-working spaces around the world for a progressive community of open-minded business thinkers. Luxembourg Spaces Place Central Station will be no different.

Adjacent to the city’s main station, the new Spaces is ideally-located for commuting and travel. With 80,000 travellers passing through the station every day – many from neighbouring Belgium, France and Germany – the office is in the hub of the action.

Spread across the entire seven floors of the Impulse building, Luxembourg Spaces Place Central Station promises to be high-spec throughout, from the atrium with its natural stone flooring and stainless-steel wall panelling to the landscaped roof terraces.

The workspaces have been designed to cater to all, from entrepreneurs and startups to SMEs and multinational corporations, witdedicated desks, shared offices, meeting rooms and a Business Club on offer, as well as ample lounge areas.

The new office is sustainable, too. In keeping with IWG’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, the Impulse building is the first in the country to be BREAM certified – the highly respected rating for green buildings – for its low energy use.

Alongside the LED lighting, the building also benefits from increased natural lighting and reversible metallic ceilings for temperature management. Rapid Wi-Fi, a barista coffee bar, on-site administrative support and extensive networking events come as standard.

Across town, Spaces Boulevard Royal is set to throw open its doors around the same time, with a 4,500-square-metre office space spanning four floors in the former building of the Luxembourg bank BGL BNP Paribas, next to the upscale Royal-Hamilius development.

Here, members will be able to equally enjoy the Spaces vibe, with dynamic workspaces, including a welcoming reception and community of like-minded people.

And, with yet another 4,500-square-metre, five-floor office space planned to open in 2022, in the prosperous neighbourhood of Gasperich in the south of the city near the Golden Bell district and the football stadium, Spaces has well and truly arrived in Luxembourg.

Set in the heartland of western Europe, Luxembourg is a prominent financial centre. Indeed, it has the second-biggest fund market outside of the US, with more than 100 banks operating in the country, and an ever-expanding pool of venture capitalists.

With this has come a flourishing startup scene and a collaborative, entrepreneurial workforce. Add to the mix a new law, introduced in 2017, to make working time more flexible and it is little wonder that co-working in Luxembourg is catching on.

“Co-working is booming and the demand for inspiring workspaces has never been higher,” says William Willems, managing director of Spaces Luxembourg. “Spaces wants to be present in all the big cities of the world. In the Grand Duchy, we intend to open eight branches by 2022.”
