Launch of the biggest SPACES. location in Latin America

Thanks to a continuing boom in Chile’s flexible workspace market, IWG launches Latin America’s largest SPACES. property in the heart of Santiago

Chile has become a magnet for global industry in recent years. With the capital of Santiago at the centre, IWG has announced the launch of the largest SPACES. property in Latin America in the city’s vibrant Apoquindo neighbourhood.

“In Latin America, companies see an incredible opportunity for growth because of the growing population and the emerging markets,” says Wayne Berger, CEO of IWG Canada and Latin America. “Weve seen exponential growth in how people are living and working in Chile. It has one of the most stable economies in Latin America and there has been ongoing growth within the Santiago region.

"And while we see tremendous vibrancy in many other Latin American cities, Santiago has the stability and the steady growth-rate of the economy, so it really lends itself well to the coworking scene.”

Chile is one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America, and Santiago has become a major hub for startups. This boom is partly due to several government initiatives, including Start-Up Chile, which encourages local and international entrepreneurs to base their fledgling businesses in the capital.

“In Latin America, 85% of the population has moved to an urban centre, which is growing at the fastest rate globally, so its a great opportunity for companies to really cast out into an emerging market,” says Berger.

In addition to this, Santiago has a vast community of remote workers and freelancers, who are also behind the recent demand for modern coworking spaces popping up throughout the city. Parent company IWG is at the forefront of the global workspace revolution, with 3,300 locations in 1,000 destinations in 110 countries.

The SPACES. brand has a modern, European appeal and attracts an energetic, forward-thinking crowd with an entrepreneurial bent. The new location in Apoquindo is attracting a mix of young, vibrant tech startups and enterprising organisations, as well as companies involved with the Pan American Games to be held in Santiago in 2023.

“The other big thing were seeing in Chile is a real combination of industries,” explains Berger. The financial sector is very strong in Santiago, as are the insurance, technology and natural resources industries. As this combination continues to grow at a steady, strong pace, it provides many more opportunities for other emerging companies and industries within the country.”

By embracing flexible workspace and serviced offices, large businesses as well as small have the opportunity to become more asset-light.

“We've seen companies such as Santander Bank make a dramatic shift in their real-estate profile within their banks, opening up work cafés and coworking facilities that actually enable the population to shift towards a coworking environment,” says Berger. “With the demand for flexible workspace continuing to accelerate across Chile, we're seeing the need for more coworking spaces really grow across the city. Its an electric and exciting time as we continue to grow both the SPACES. and other IWG brands throughout the region.”
