IWG continues to expand in Asia with new Regus and Spaces locations

Asia’s flourishing business scene has embraced flexible workspace thanks to a dynamic startup and entrepreneurial landscape

Brimming with creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, Asian businesses are growing at a rate of knots, with IWG companies Regus and Spaces making efforts to support this energy with continued expansion across the region.

IWG now offers more than 300 locations in Southeast Asia and Greater China through its operating brands, each with a bespoke range of services designed to provide the best for every business need.

Spaces is more than just office space – it combines office solutions with a full programme of professional events, hospitality and a free-spirited vibe aimed at positive and open-minded thinkers.

With 12 sites either open or due to open soon, the young and vibrant commercial hubs of Hong Kong and Singapore are equipped to enable the expansion of businesses moving eastward.

The Lion City

Singapore has earned an enviable reputation for innovation, especially in the tech and fintech spheres, boasting a workforce with a fierce appetite for success, creativity, and collaborative startup working.

One Asian site, in particular, is creating a lot of excitement.

Nigel Barnes, vice president development, Asia Pacific, says: “In Singapore, we take things one step further, where Spaces has leased the former H&M store in One Raffles Place Mall, which will provide street level access from the very heart of Singapore’s CBD.”

Barnes says that this latest development will offer “unmatched accessibility” for clients, adding: “The site will be a key feature of the mall, which will benefit from foot traffic throughout the day, supporting the F&B and services offered at the mall. You could say Spaces is evolving into ‘retail working’, a beautiful product, with high street access and off-the-shelf solutions for occupiers.”

Spaces is not the only IWG brand to expand in the Lion City. Singapore will be the first Asian city to open ‘Signature by Regus’, a brand that offers some of the world’s most elite business addresses, a 7,000sq m site across the penthouse floors of Asia Square Tower 1.

Singapore will also be home to the first No18 in Asia, located at Capitol Piazza in Singapore’s historic heart.

A colonial-era complex, the space has been transformed into a high-end mixed-use scheme that includes Capitol Piazza mall, the Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore, the Capitol Theatre and Eden Residences Capitol.

Here comes the sun

With its mix of Chinese and British history, Hong Kong is still the gateway to Asia when it comes to business. As with Singapore, it, too, boasts a buzzing startup scene and remains one of the key locations for business expansion anywhere in the world.

In Hong Kong, Spaces has already opened two new sites in core business districts, Sun House and Lee Garden 3. Measuring more than 7,000sq m each, both sites have proven popular with large corporates and a wide range of industries, from law firms and fintech companies to insurance companies, design firms and entrepreneurs.

The awe-inspiring 20-storey Sun House project includes a three-storey business club and co-working space, two event floors, a screening room, and even a rooftop deck.

“This offers a truly unique workspace in Hong Kong and a focal point for flexible working in Hong Kong’s financial hub,” says Barnes.

Expanding base

While Hong Kong and Singapore may win most of Asia’s commercial headlines, they are joined by a host of up-and-coming business hubs around the continent. To meet this demand, Spaces is expanding into countries where more firms are looking to spread their wings, or where global corporates are aiming to gain a foothold in the rapidly developing region.

Spaces has expanded to 13 sites in 40 locations across Asia, opening its first offices in Jakarta (WTC 3) and Hanoi (Belvedere), with additional sites in Manila, Bangkok, and Taipei. The company will also open its first site in Kuala Lumpur in July and has signed for its first site for Penang in the cultural hub of George Town at the historic Standard Chartered Bank Building.

Regus, too, is expanding into new sub-markets and Asian cities, such as Hsinchu and Taichung in Taiwan, Selangor, and Penang in Malaysia and Bali and Surabaya in Indonesia.

The Regus network in China now covers 30 cities and provides businesses with easy access to this fast-evolving market, too, while last December, Bangkok saw the opening of Asia’s first HQ branded centre, which provides business essentials for companies seeking a cost-effective workplace.
