Spaces expands in the US

From LA to Ohio, these new Spaces locations offer stylish surrounds and outstanding facilities

The rapid growth of Spaces in North America has seen the brand go from strength to strength as it continues to open innovative co-working spaces across the country, including in LA, Seattle and Ohio. And the company is showing no signs of slowing down.

Starting with Santa Monica, where Spaces teamed up with commercial real estate expert CBRE, the company was able to open a new co-working space in the city’s vibrant media district. The new hub is the eighth that Spaces has opened in the Los Angeles area alone, showing the growing demand from companies in this part of California for a fully serviced office space that provides flexibility, an enviable location and a stylish workplace.

Michael Berretta, Vice President Network Development, Americas at IWG, said at the time of its opening that the Santa Monica Spaces is located on one of the largest blocks of creative office space in the heart of the city, offering a vibrant and collaborative work environment.

“With sophisticated interior design and an impressive outdoor patio area, the location is well-positioned to serve an innovative community of professionals in the Valley,” he said.

IWG is also making a significant investment in Seattle, Washington, this year, by opening three new Spaces in the downtown area, where the startup scene in the city is truly flourishing.

The first building, Spaces Pioneer Square, is set on the waterfront of the city and is surrounded by art galleries and trendy boutiques. With more than 46,000 square feet of flexible workspace, it is an ideal choice for new and established businesses looking for a flexible option, whether they’re a local food company or an established tech brand.

Over the next few months, the new Spaces 2nd & University (2+U) – the largest Spaces site in the city – will open, with a rooftop deck and a fitness centre. And later in the year the Spaces Elliott Avenue will throw open its doors. The building will be in the city’s trendy Belltown district, and has a number of galleries, cute boutiques, and eateries on its doorstep.

Seattle was the next logical step in Spaces’ West Coast expansion plans, Berretta said, as it is home to a number of multinational corporations, while the city’s startup community is only continuing to grow.

And as Spaces continues on its mission to open co-working spaces in every US state, it has even more plans for the state of Ohio. The ‘Buckeye State’ is home to the 22nd Spaces to launch, and the newly-opened Spaces Over-the-Rhine site in Cincinnati promises to be a destination for local entrepreneurs and businesses from across all industries.

The downtown Cincinnati site has been secured with a 12-year lease and boasts both public and private spaces, 400 dedicated desks and 5,000 square feet of communal areas. The building itself has been designed to blend in with the artistic Over-the-Rhine district in the city, which has a rich 120-year history, by using materials and structures from the neighbourhood as part of its make-up.

And if that wasn’t enough, there’s a Spaces Short North that opened in Columbus, Ohio, just last month. It’s just 15 minutes away from the city’s international airport and next to the central business district, making it the perfect location for local business owners and those who need to travel in and out of the city for work.

Berretta said Spaces’ growth in the US is serving communities where there is a need for flexible workspaces that allows companies to create their own culture.

“Our immediate focus is on expanding Spaces into communities where there is a strong need for a collaborative, creative and flexible workspace environment without sacrificing the quality of our offerings,” he said.

“As we continue to grow Spaces and foster a creative mix of clients, we’re also focused on giving companies an inspiring place where they can really create their own culture. It’s a unique balance between staying aggressive and keeping the best interests of our customers at the forefront of our planning.”
