IWG adds to its workspace portfolio in Texas

Thanks to a healthy real estate market and rising employment, Houston is booming, making it an ideal location for the expansion of Spaces, IWG’s brand that provides creative space for entrepreneurial minds

Houston appears to have bounced back from the oil downturn and the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey. The Texan city is going from strength to strength – real estate sales broke records in 2018 and, this year, the metropolis is set to gain the highest number of new residents in the state, who are attracted by solid job growth and a low cost of living.

Tapping into Houston’s prosperous vibe, Spaces – IWG’s design-led office brand – has signed the lease on two new workspace locations, both expected to open in late 2019.

“Houston is a vibrant city with a global business hub and an entrepreneurial attitude. Spaces gives Houston’s talent pool an inspiring place to work and meet with other people who believe in the power of collaboration to drive a business forward,” Michael Berretta, Vice President of Network Development for IWG, said in an announcement.

Spaces – which entered the Houston market last year at Kirby Grove, near Levy Park in Upper Kirby – creates flexible workspaces with a unique and energetic synergy, aimed towards open-minded business thinkers, innovators and game-changers.

“Spaces is redefining the way work is done, providing a contemporary, social and creative environment with a real focus on community,” Berretta added.

The dynamic workspace provider is moving into GreenStreet (1201 Fannin Street), a mixed-use redevelopment which bills itself as “the new model of urban lifestyle”.

Spanning four city blocks in Downtown, GreenStreet is a hub of shops, restaurants and office space in the heart of Houston’s emerging Innovation District, home to a number of forward-thinking companies – global non-profit startup accelerator MassChallenge has recently announced it will move in.

Spaces GreenStreet will be taking over a 63,000-square-foot space, occupying three floors, with slick design across its informal areas, team rooms, coworking space, meeting rooms, furnished private offices and a 3,000-square-foot rooftop patio. Super-fast Wi-Fi and barista-poured coffee come as standard.

Members will also have access to free cultural events on the outdoor lawn, local art installations, the nearby Hotel Alessandra, with its spa and cocktail bar, and the House of Blues concert hall.

Across town, Spaces will also be bringing a design-led coworking component to CityCentre One at 800 Town & Country Blvd, occupying 60,789 square feet in the five-storey office building.

Located in the city’s burgeoning Energy Corridor, near Beltway 8 and Interstate 10, Spaces CityCentre will be at the heart of west Houston’s concentration of energy, technology and engineering firms. Similar features and workspace options to those at GreenStreet will be on offer, and the perks of restaurants, gyms, and green space within easy reach.

The company has also secured a 53,000-square-foot Uptown location at Parkway Properties’ Two Post Oak Central set to open in the fourth quarter of 2019. Members will have access to a global network of more than 3,300 flexible workspace locations in more than 1,000 towns and cities across 110 countries.
